Industrial Workwear & Hi-Vis Safety: What Sri Lankan Sites Need

Industrial workers in hi-vis safety vests and workwear, Sri Lanka

Construction sites, warehouses, logistics yards and factory floors in Sri Lanka have specific uniform requirements: visibility for safety, durability for daily wear, and fabrics that cope with heat without falling apart after twenty wash cycles. Procurement teams often discover too late that cheap workwear costs more when replacements are needed every few months.

Hi-visibility garments

Hi-vis vests and shirts use fluorescent fabric with reflective tape to keep workers visible to vehicles and machinery. For outdoor sites — road work, port operations, building construction — Class 2 or Class 3 hi-vis (under EN ISO 20471) is commonly specified. In Sri Lanka’s bright sunlight, fluorescent orange and yellow both perform well; the choice often comes down to company colour standards and what contrasts with the site environment.

Coveralls and work suits

Full coveralls protect against dust, grease and minor splashes. Look for reinforced knees, sturdy zips and breathable panels if staff work in non-air-conditioned spaces. Cotton drill at 240 GSM and above lasts longer than thin poly-cotton on active sites.

Work shirts and cargo trousers

For supervisors and technicians who do not need full coveralls, heavy-duty work shirts and cargo trousers with multiple pockets are standard. Dark colours hide stains; reinforced stitching at stress points extends garment life. Embroidered company logos on hi-vis garments should not cover reflective tape.

Sizing and replacement planning

Industrial teams often need a wider size range than office staff. Include 3XL and 4XL in your size run survey. Plan for higher replacement rates on active sites — 20–30% annual turnover on coveralls is normal for heavy-use roles.

  • Specify reflective tape placement for your safety officer’s approval
  • Order spare vests — they are lost and damaged more often than shirts
  • Match boot and PPE policies to uniform trouser leg length
  • Keep a site stock cupboard for new contractor inductions
